The setting is the Midwest of the United States during World War II and deals with the problems and joys of basically four rural families.

A heart wrenching story of four families and the devastation they face as their boys are killed or wounded in battle.

Their dedication to providing food and supplies for the troops and the nation.

Their tolerance of shortages and rationing and then finding substitutes for them.

Their indomitable patriotism.

All come alive in this book.

About the Author

C. A. Jacob (formerly Dorfmeyer)was born in Fremont, NE, where she currently resides. She was raised on a farm. The oldest of three daughters, she became the hired hand, working in the fields, milking cows, etc.

In her adult life she became an accountant and excelled in that field. She also served as the volunteer treasurer and in other positions of several non-profit organizations.

When she retired, she decided to see if there was any creativity left in her and took a course in Creative Writing. Here, she received so much encouragement that she wrote this book.
