About the Book
By the time you realize that your family is not like everyone else's, the roller coaster that is your life has already begun its descent. Sometimes you have to hold on as tight as you can with your eyes closed and other times you just throw your hands up in the air and scream. This is what living with an alcoholic is like. You love, you hate, you grow, you learn, and somehow you find it in yourself to forgive. This is a true story of a boy who finds himself in the middle of his father's alcoholic nightmare. The family coexists in avoidance and fear (and an occasional laugh or two) for two decades before they encounter the rocky road of recovery, only to emerge from that staring at a long struggle with a terminal illness. This book was born out of one man's need to examine his life's history to save his relationship with the woman he loves. Ultimately he saves himself.
