About the Book

Verna doesn't want to get married, but is swept off her feet by the brilliant and charming Jeff. He promises her that he will earn a million dollars, and she believes him. Verna was just waiting to find a man in control of his destiny. Against the background of the scientific advances of World War II, Jeff predicts that ships from earth will travel to other planets, perhaps by "sailing" in space, propelled by solar winds.

Jeff's genius, vision and hard work bring great success. He is able to retire early to pursue original research, but Verna soon begins to suspect that something is very wrong. The peaceful life she anticipated is torn apart when Jeff's behavior becomes increasingly unpredictable. Verna looks everywhere for answers and finally confronts the frightening reality of early-onset Alzheimer's Disease In order to survive-both financially and emotionally-Verna must somehow find within herself the strength for both of them.

About the Author

E. Lawrence was born in Los Angeles. She worked as a nurse during World War II and after her marriage as a commercial photographer. She has two daughters and one grandson. Lawrence currently resides in Southern California.
