About the Book

The year is 1922. Brooklyn is crowded with Jewish immigrants and their American-born children. For Debbie, almost 14 it is a wonderful, exciting time in a fresh new land, seen through the eyes of a girl at the edge of womanhood. About the Author

Fran Weissenberg grew up in a neighborhood of Jewish immigrants in Brooklyn. She is a retired teacher and librarian, and the mother of two daughters. This, her first book, won the Sydney Taylor MS. Award from the Association of Jewish Libraries.
