About the Book

Born in 1902 of former slaves, Marie Johnson, nee Mary Jennie Cheek, moved from the cotton fields of North Carolina to Tennessee, graduated from Knoxville College, and went on to a thirty-year career of public service in Philadelphia. Her long and remarkable life served as a source of inspiration to hundreds, and left a legacy of lessons we would all do well to take to heart.

About the Author
