About the Book
Reaching Out is an enriching and inspirational narrative covering Rainette’s experience in the United States Peace Corps. It also covers a brief, but exciting period while working for American Bell International, Tehran, Iran as a Personnel Recruiter. Her position in Iran was curtailed by an evacuation from that country in 1979, due to serious government uprisings. Her first Peace Corps assignment was in Kenya, East Africa. Here she was instrumental in establishing a secretarial school for young women. She was principal of the school, and also taught secretarial studies. Her second Peace Corps venture describes her work as a teacher in Sierra Leone, West Africa. This too was cut short due to civil rebellions, and also forced an evacuation from that country in 1991. In spite of these obstacles, Rainette made significant contributions to the people of Africa and has continued to maintain a strong bond with them.
