About the Book

Still Water Fifties is a romantic noel set in the late 1950’s in Central Nebraska. Kevin Douglas, the main character, is an All-State high school football player. Kevin is going through some restless times as he seeks his way in the world. Fortunately for Kevin, he finds a “guru” in his par of the world by the name of Jimmy Jurgenau. Jimmy , who formerly was a practicing physician in Kevin’s hometown, comes to his rescue over and over with bits of philosophical insights and acts of kindness.

About the Author

Ken Widergren was born in Genoa, Nebraska in 1941. When he was two and a half years old, his family moved to Hastings, Nebraska. He attended school in the Hastings public school system and later graduated from Hastings College. He served in the Army two years during the Vietnam War before returning home. This novel was written while he attended Hastings College and during his army days and draws on his experiences growing up in a small, prairie, farm community.
