About the Author

Ron Hickman, a veteran broadcaster, owner and founder of an FM Radio Station in Middletown/Newport, Rhode Island began his Radio/Television career in Eastern Kentucky at Radio Station, WPKE-AM, Pikeville. In 1955, Hickman joined WNNJ AM Newton, New Jersey as a staff announcer/salesman and was named News Director and laterGeneral Manager. In addition to interviewing many luminaries from the entertainment and sports world, one of his assignments for Associated Press was to cover the private wedding of Zsa Zsa Gabor’s sister in Sussex County. From tragic news events to live coverage of the America’s Cup off Newport, Rhode Island…and from local news events tolive coverage of visits to Newport by President Nixon and other leaders…the news business held Hickman’s attention and he remained behind the mike and on camera for TV commercials until the sale of the Rhode Island FM Radio Station which he founded. One of the highlights of his career was for Ron and his wife, Barbara, to be invited to dinner at the New York City home of America’s most trusted anchorman, Walter Cronkite. The occasion was to honor the late TV Announcer, Bob Hite, a very close friend of both Cronkite and Hickman, who was retiring from the CBS Television Network.

“TOUCHING THE STARS”, Hickman’s first literary effort was published in 1986. A story about the many exciting experiences as a broadcaster, a member of the Presidential Press Corps and the inter-views and meetings with hundreds of celebrities, sports stars, and political leaders. He shares with readers an 8 year struggle to secure a FCC license and local permits in Rhode Island to establish the mar-ket’s first FM Radio Station. The author resides with his wife, Barbara, at Tiger Point in Gulf Breeze, Florida.
