About the Book

This gate guarded the entrance to the Rivers Ranch at the top of Mountain Avenue in Monrovia, California. It was built in France in 1862 and was shipped around the Horn to San Francisco. Soldering was unknown then so it was assembled with rivets. Since 1962, it has stood sentry at the JRK Ranch, JR's "Dream House" in Templeton.

FOOTPRINTS is a must read about a doctor’s dream which came to fruition with the support if his loving wife as they parleyed their uniquely varied interests into a happy, family life, a thoroughbred horse farm, flying a Cessna Skylane 182, and building an adobe ranch home.

Many men dream of building their own home exactly as they want it, but most never do. JR is one who did. His dream extended over five decades with a change of careers from architecture to medicine—all this with the accompany trails and tribulations is told with grace, wit and telling detail.

About the Author

Kae Spencer spent many happy early years in a small town in upstate New York with a loving mother, an ambitious father, a sister who was three and a half years older, a strict grandmother right next door and aunts and uncles on the other side. She was carefully "watched over" so it isn't too surprising that she left all that security to venture into the unknown of the state of Texas soon after she graduated from college. Her life from then on was a series of great adventures, throughout WWII, and 51 years of marriage to an unusually talented surgeon who had a significant dream...one she helped bring to fruition. He dreamed of building his own adobe brick home from "scratch"...and he did.

Her book FOOTPRINTS is the story of those years and aside from a few articles she wrote for the Thoroughbred of California, it is her first written work.

Kae now resides in that "Dream Adobe" home with her dog "Happy" and her Manx cat, "Wampus," in Paso Robles, California. That is—unless she is off traveling the world, exploring new horizons and experiencing adventures with her favorite traveling companion.
