Through the eyes of Topper, a young city-bred cat, the reader follows Topper's experiences as he adapts to life in a wild, new environment. Topper lands in a clump of sword fern in Ravenwood, abandoned and hungry. His first act is to stalk a large black bird for dinner, but he is interrupted by Sidekick, a doe, who warns that the value of Raven to all of Ravenwood is far greater as surveyor and reporter than to satisfy one hungry feline. Thus begins Topper's many life lessons in the great Pacific Northwest Forest under the wise guidance of Sidekick.

This book is well suited to family reading and values discussion.

Sylvia Spicer, author of Hey Mom, is an innovative videographer, photographer, writer and educator. As a mother, she wrote bedtime stories for her son and grandchildren to teach life values through an appreciation of nature while increasing their vocabulary through metaphoric expressions.
