So begins Neal Silvester's futuristic tale of philosophy and theology, set in the city on the sea Oceania, a place where there is no law, no civilization, no humanity, but also no crime-for how can there be illegality without legality?

Terry Guthrie, boss of the second-largest gang in Oceania, is walking about one day when he barely evades a hitman's bullets. Who is hunting him, and why? And more importantly, what will this lead to? Salvane, the mysterious, enigmatic, and seemingly-archetypal mercenary is hired to discover the root of the failed hit. But he seems to have hidden, ulterior motives that go beyond the limited pleasures of the city, some outside, secret benefactor he is working for simultaneously as he works for others. Who is this benefactor, and what does he or she want? Peter Smith, a poor gunsmith just trying to support a family in the midst of the metaphorical storm that is Oceania, makes a terrible mistake and must separate from that family for his and their safety. Oliver, a nimble and clever urchin of the streets, is caught trying to steal from one of Terry's henchmen. Terry admires the kid's spunk, and takes him onto his crew.

There is a back-story here, a past with suffering and trials, darkness and despair, misery and damnation-a pot brewing that is about to boil over. The present story, however, is one of light, of radiance but not unearned.

This is what happens when everything is allowed.

About the Author

Neal Silvester is a college student living in Clayton, California, where he is studying (both in school and in his free time) the English language and philosophy. He has thought out the themes and ideas presented in this novel to the utmost degree, and believes in their absolute truthfulness.
