About the Book

A sixty-one-year-old, modern-day Don Quixote, author Michael Stearns applies for a job in law enforcement in Cody, Wyoming. After a staff psychologist's interview leads to a diagnosis of schizophrenia, Stearns takes a moment to reminisce on his amazing life journey. Told as a flashback, Just Another Yo-Yo Contest is a hilarious memoir spanning four decades of his adult life.

Stearns, a high school dropout, works his way to the top of one profession after another. As a musician, he proves himself first-rate in at least a half a dozen bands that are world famous names. While playing in New York City, he is discovered by a visiting Hollywood theatrical agent, and he decides to return to the West Coast to pursue acting. From bit parts in television to starring roles in movies, Stearns shares behind-the-scenes tales of the rise of a struggling actor to the ranks of seasoned performer with over fifty filmed appearances to his credit.

Stearns's life winds its way through a sex, drugs, and jazz beginning, into an extensive career as a film and television actor, and later, into his profession as a top-producing Beverly Hills stockbroker and real estate executive. Just Another Yo-Yo Contest is a kaleidoscope of Stearns' intriguing and entertaining adventures.

About the Author

Michael Stearns has rubbed shoulders with Mae West, taught Marvin Gaye how to ride a motorcycle, played cards with Helen Hayes, shot a round of golf with Billy Eckstein, and was introduced to Christianity by way of a beautiful pair of legs. In 2006, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and given odds of less than five percent to survive. This story was completed at the conclusion of a heart wrenching battle that Stearns refers to as Just Another Yo-Yo Contest.
