About the Book

I wrote this book to help families who have a child with a traumatic brain injury. My daughter was involved in an accident, the severity of which changed her life and the lives of our family forever. During her accident, subsequent treatment, and recovery I found professional systems to be lacking in information and support.

Technical medical expertise to keep Tania alive was available, but there was a shortage of awareness for the family's pain, helplessness and frustration. Information and resources that could have helped us cope better were either not available or easily assessable.

Here is how this book can help you:

When I think of my experience as a mother of a traumatically brain injured child, despite the sadness I feel, I realize that I can take this seemingly worthless experience and create some meaning by helping families and professionals better deal with brain trauma with brain trauma.

About the Author

Mary Burgess-Smithhas a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Center for Humanistic Studies and is the mother of a child with a traumatic brain injury. She resides with her husband and daughter in Birmingham, Michigan. She can be reached at bimarysmith@aol.com
