About the Book
Many baby boomers will face the dilemma of inheriting a farm, house, or other family property rich in sentimental value. Unfortunately, in today's market, that inheritance may be a financial liability rather than an asset. The farm near Richardson Hill presents John Sneyde with just such a problem.
John had inherited both the 484-acre farm that his mother's family owned and operated since 1830, and through his mother's tales of family lore he learned of the history and emotional ties to the land. He also learned of the sacrifices the family had made to keep it. Unfortunately modern issues connected to managing running the farm six hundred miles from his home in Michigan is not an easy task. More importantly, the monetary value of the land, when compared to the money generated from the farm, does not warrant keeping it. Torn between loyalty to his mother and the demands of his life, John decided to sell the farm. But in the midst of this process, he begins to view his ancestors who first farmed the land in a different light, and realizes that their work and sacrifices helped make him the man he is today. Richardson Hill is a touching family saga full of warmth and memories, and the story of a man who must make peace with his past before he can move forward with the future.About the Author
J. Corwin Sneed is retired from a career in medical sales and then construction. He and his wife Peg, with their cats Java and Henry, live in Michigan on the seventeenth floor in their condo overlooking a small but beautiful golf course. With a name like Sneed it is natural that one of his hobbies is golfing along with his new passion of flying.
They have a daughter who is a teacher in a local high school district and is the pride of their lives. She is their reminder of all that is good and generous in the world. He is a student again pursuing his degree in Hospital Administration. When he isn't golfing, working on his pilots license, or watching hawks outside of the condo windows searching for food, he is working on From Palmyra to Gettysburg due to be published by Christmas 2007.
