About the Book
The title of this book of poetry says it all. The poems will inspire and educate both teens and adults. Many of the youth and social issues we deal with every day are creatively addressed through poetry. It is a collage of over twenty of Gary's best poems. Here are just SOME of the social issues addressed:

The book is good for everyone who enjoys poetry. It is a powerful educational tool for Educators and Parents. Finding creative yet positive ways of addressing these social issues is important. Gary has accomplished that with this book of poetry. It is also quite evident that he did his homework before he addressed these social issues.
About the Author
Gary Tavares was born in New York on March 9, 1965. He came across rough times when he and his five brothers and sisters were abandoned by both parents. He was no older than four years old. They were all placed in a Foster home in the Bronx, New York. The six of them stayed together but Foster parents raised them. Their real parents were never located.
He graduated from Evander Childs High School of the Bronx, New York in 1983 at the age of eighteen. He went to the United States Navy from 1983 to 1986 and received an Honorable Discharge. He then joined the United States Army from 1986 to 1992. He received an honorable discharge from the Army also. He took some college courses towards an associate?s degree in Liberal Arts while he was in the military.
In 1993 Gary found out he has the gift of writing. He immediately began taking courses in Creative Writing to sharpen his newfound talent. At first, it was a way to channel his energy and escape the realities of life. He later decided to use this gift to educate others as well as do something positive for our communities. He started out writing educational plays. He had all four of his educational plays produced in California. He both wrote and directed each play. In 2000, he began writing Screenplays. He currently has four completed Screenplays, of all different genres. He is working on about eight others.
He started writing Poetry in 2002. He had a column in a published company newsletter. The name of the monthly newsletter was ?The ATC Times?. The name of the column was ?Tavares? Tales?. He had to write an original educational poem for the column monthly. His poem ?Battered and Bruised?, which spoke about domestic violence, won the prestigious Editor's Choice Award from Poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry. (2006) His poem ?Dope Boy?, which spoke about Drug Dealers was one of the Featured Poems of The Week on PoetrySoup.com. (2006) His poem ?The Disgruntled Passenger? was featured in the March 2007 MARTA Station Services Insider in Atlanta, GA. He currently has over twenty educational and inspirational poems. He is hoping to reach the educational system as well as our communities with these educational and inspirational poems.
Gary has established his own business in the Atlanta Georgia area. He is CEO and Founder of Tavares Entertainment, LLC. He offers creative and professional writing services as well as the development of original works.
