About the Book

Although this book is a work of fiction, it is based on actual events. John Gross lived through those events. He commanded a mechanized infantry company that fought in Bien Hoa City on the first day of the Tet Offensive. I was one of his soldiers that day. He has an insider's understanding of the Vietnam War, but he also has a wonderful facility for making it understandable to the average reader.

About the Author

John E. Gross is a 1965 Distinguished Military Graduate from the ROTC program at East Tennessee State University. He served as a company commander in the 82nd Airborne Division and in the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam. He later served as an instructor in the army?s Ranger school and with the 4th and 7th Infantry Divisions. In 1982, he returned to head the East Tennessee State University ROTC Department from which he graduated. He served as a staff officer in Japan and on the faculty at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. He holds a master?s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Michigan State University and is a graduate of the College of Naval Command and Staff in Newport, Rhode Island. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1988.
