The Love that Shouted for Joy! is a series of vignettes, scattered in space and time, about the complications that arise when two people decide to marry. The fact that the partners are of the same sex is only one piece of the intricate landscape that spans over 30 years and tells a story culminating in a backyard ceremony during the historic summer of 2004.

For anyone who has ever dealt with in-laws, planned or is contemplating a wedding, has had to come to terms with a painful change of heart to trust and love again, you may recognize yourself.

Voodoo Dolls, My Romance with the Dirt, Wisconsin Trumps Bali and Virginia Woolf's House are four of the 22 chapters that describe the journey of one couple daring to speak the name of love the first summer after Massachusetts announced the "legitimacy" of same-sex unions.

About the Author

Pamela Howland Wescott graduated from Wellesley College. Her memoir writing began while bicycling cross-country to graduate school at Berkeley, and she was a finalist for the Bakeless Creative Nonfiction Literary Prize. This book sprang out of her life with her spouse Kathleen and their corgi Malcolm in Hyde Park, Massachusetts.
