About the Book

Alfred W. Riggs was raised in Troy, Ohio, where he first realized that he was not interested in leading an ordinary life. He graduated from Ohio University in Athens, and has lived in Ohio, Texas, and California. He was, at various times, a math teacher, land surveyor, bum, writer, consumer advocate, photographer, civil engineer, sailor, harmonica player, and a cab driver. Some of these he did professionally, and others he did out of the love of life. He passed away in San Francisco on March 1, 2002.

David B. Stang, editor, and Alfred's brother, is a semi-retired software engineer and is presently living in Columbus Ohio learning how to tune pianos.
