About the Book
Dominic Goncalves led a normal life until he was nine. Then his parents sold their house and business, bought a boat, and set off to sail around the world. So began an epic adventure of sailing aboard their thirty-seven-foot Endurance, Indigo from the tip of Africa across the South Atlantic Ocean to the magical islands of Saint Helena and Ascension, and then on to Brazil, French Guiana, and the Caribbean. This book was written and published before his fifteenth birthday, and is a boy's account of the freedom, challenges and observations of growing up at sea.
About the Author
Dominic Goncalves was born in Durban, South Africa in 1987. He spent most of his childhood, from age 9 to 16, sailing around the world on a small sailboat with his parents. Cruising Kid was written and published by the age of 15, about the first three years of their voyage, from South Africa to the Caribbean. Upon return to conventional society, Goncalves finished school, received a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Communication, and began a successful career in renewable energy. He travels widely, enjoys hiking, surfing and the outdoors, and writes short stories and literary fiction.
