About the Book

My Meter is Running is a fictionalized semi-autobiographical account of the five years the author spent in the nether world of nightime Manhattan as a NightHawk, driving a fleet Checker Cab in and around Manhattan, NY, desperately searching for love while finding sex, drugs, and Rock 'N' Roll instead, and experiencing the daily early evening rebirth of Manhattan's all night party first hand, watching people being drawn inexorably toward its unique promise of human connection in a city of sometimes intolerable alienation.

About the Author

Gary Brand is presently an SAT tutor, having formerly worked as a department store buyer, bartender, high school English teacher, junk yard manager, and, of course, as a cab driver tooling around Manhattan in his Checker.
