After a strange time warp experience when Lucy Lightfoot falls from her horse in the 19th century and meets her 14th century lover Edward Estur, she is obsessed with his oak statue as a Crusader in the church of Gatcombe in the Isle of Wight. Her shattering disappearance from the church in a violent thunderstorm transports her forever to the 14th century. The action starts in England where she meets Edward, and then goes on to the Mediterranean.
