About the Book
A Banquet for the Soul
If a day passes, does it leave a mark? If a year falls away, what do we gain from it? These questions strike a special chord with our own times, when the living of life has become a lost art. Over one hundred years ago the writer John Ruskin prophesied the decline of spirit and sensibility, calling his own generation "the age of brown," and in many ways our century has followed suit.
Rediscover the flavor and beauty of life in Savour: A Year's Journey Through the Arts and Beyond. Month by month, each chapter offers a selection of classic literature, art, and music designed to deepen your experience as well as your wisdom. From Homer to Proust, Rubens to Rembrandt, you will come to taste for yourself the greatness of the arts. As spring gives way to summer, fall, and winter, you will live more deeply than ever before in days flavored with the beauty you have seen and the lessons you have learned. Follow along on this journey through the year. If you have ever hungered for beautiful truth in your days, you will find here at last a banquet for the soul.
