About the Book
In the first eighteen or twenty years of life, a lot of things happen to you, and you then spend the rest of your life sorting that out. It takes many years to see some of the influences that subconsciously affect and guide us, and sometimes it takes a long time to understand the cause-and-effect in one’s life. In A Love Story for My Children, author Ruth M. Lester tells the story of the first twenty years of her life and how that affected the subsequent years. Filled with real-life drama, this memoir begins in the harsh Depression era, journeys through the hardships of World War II, and continues to the present day. Under enormously difficult circumstances, Lester tells how she made the heart-wrenching decision as an unwed mother to give two of her children up for adoption. From the depths of despair to the pinnacle of joy, A Love Story for My Children narrates a story that defies the odds. Lester’s recounting of her earlier years is one played out by thousands of women, but hers comes with a happy ending.
