About the Book

My family lived in the hills of Dizney, Kentucky since shortly after the civil war. The Cloud family came from England with William Penn and settled in Pennsylvania with the Quakers. Their descendants moved south as far as North Carolina and as far west as Texas and Missouri.

This is also my story of growing up in the 1950s in poverty with polio in a holler called Stretchneck Holler in Dizney, Kentucky

The is a story of the Cloud and Presley families who migrated to these hills after the civil war and their descendants who still live here today.

About the Author

My grandfather, father and I grew up in the same little Appalachian town. This story is about growing up poor in the hills of southeastern Kentucky from my experience and stories told to me or given to me by people who also lived there. I was a polio victim who had a devoted mother who did everything in her power to get me the best medical attention at that time. I am married and currently live in Jackson, New Jersey. I have two daughters and three grand children. My daughters encouraged me to turn my web site into a book.
