About the Book

I have long intended to leave to my children and grandchildren some kind of written record regarding the things I have learned and the things I have seen in my lifetime. Part of this knowledge concerns my ancestors, who are unable to speak for themselves and for whom I must therefore be speaker. I have attempted to warrant their trust and offer herein those recollections available to me in hopes that these family members will not be just an item in a list but will assume some character as living, breathing human beings.

I have lived through interesting times and I have included in this journal an autobiographical memoir of my own experiences in hopes of offering some idea of what life was like in the second half of the twentieth century. There are no earth-shattering revelations or deep meanings in my story, but there is the satisfaction of someone who found his way in the world, who found love and satisfaction, and who hopefully contributed in some small measure to the happiness of his family and to the peace and prosperity of our country.
