The bond between father and son can often be strained when one of them is handicapped. Throughout his life, Randy Moser encountered many challenging events when trying to effectively communicate with his deaf father. Without solid, consistent communication, the parent-child relationship they shared sometimes seemed nonexistent, even though at other times it remained open, caring, and loving. But a fishing trip changes his outlook.

Ed Moser, Randy's father, tells his son that his handicap is merely an inconvenience. Randy witnesses his father's fortitude and resilience during their fishing trip in Victoria, British Columbia, and he begins to see the world through new eyes. His quest for understanding turns into a new appreciation for his father's ability to see the world as it is: living in the present moment and tuning into beauty and wonder he had previously taken for granted. Their trip to this picturesque part of Canada changes both men, creating a stronger parent/child bond, along with a new friendship.
