About the Book

The United States' influence in the Philippines has produced a remarkable and highly successful experiment in democracy through education-not through military intervention. With the education provided by American teachers known as the Thomasites who came to the Philippines in 1901, tens and thousands of Filipinos have become professionals, working throughout the world further spreading American democracy. The author is one of them.

But according to author Patricio R. Mamot, Filipino leaders demonstrate less than full adherence to true democratic governance. About the Author

Patricio R. Mamot earned a PhD in American history from Ball State University. He taught political science at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indiana Central University, and Indiana University East. He is a recipient of several awards, including the Republic of the Philippines Outstanding Filipino Abroad Award.
