About the Book

It has often been said that, lamentably, children, all children, do not come with an instruction booklet. The child with disabilities is no different, certainly even more complex. They are like the models of DVD or television that are the high-tech versions. How do you learn to raise them, help them become independent responsible adults? What skills should they learn? Who will take care of them or watch over them when the parents are long gone?

Beautiful Freedom contains memories of the growth and development of a beautiful daughter, who just happens to have developmental disabilities. Taking the reader on the journey of faulty diagnosis, years of therapy, setbacks and triumphs, it describes the road that most parents of children with disabilities have traveled.

Beautiful Freedom Freedom Freedom offers real advice, from a parent's perspective, on how to realize a life of independence with self-esteem, self-assuredness and a sense of fulfillment for the child with a disability. A simply-written, easy read, it will inspire parents or caregivers to plan for their child's independent living, to find the support and help necessary to ensure that their child not just settle for an existence alone in an adult world, but rather to enjoy a beautiful freedom of social life and community connections. These young adults have the ability to live to their potential, with supported community living, and to make a valuable contribution to the world around them.
