About the Book

This book is a Mind Power Primer. Reading it is, therefore, an intellectual journey. It is intended to facilitate the development of a New Mental Attitude in African Americans. The New Mental Attitude is fueled by powerful ideas that will develop in you the kind of thinking that will produce fundamental change in the way you think. Our ancestors gave civilization to the world through their intellectual prowess. This prowess was born of critical thinking techniques and reliance on the reservoir of knowledge contained in their ancestral stream. Our fall from a position of intellectual supremacy was marked by a departure from this ancient, time-honored technique. In the historical context it is clear that when radical change comes to a society it is never as a result of the concerted efforts of the masses. This is true because the masses are always so involved in the unending pursuit of life’s daily necessities that they are prevented from acting decisively as a group—African Americans are no exception. It is for this reason that the reliance on a mass grass roots movement among African Americans as the impetus for change is misguided. It is equally true that the hope of a single leader, a black messiah, if you will, is misguided as well. Charismatic leaders come and go. They are never a real threat to established power. This is because as human beings necessarily beset with an array of human frailties they are easily compromised or simply assassinated. Invariably the death of the charismatic leader means the death of the movement. It is the powerful idea that cannot be stopped. History demonstrates that it is always a small group of enlightened persons; we may call them visionaries, who sow the powerful seed/ideas of social and political change. These visionaries are invariably people of normal intelligence who have become critical thinkers. It is they who form the Critical Mass. It is the Critical Mass that initiates change. Mass action only becomes possible after the Critical Mass is formed and active. It is only then that the masses, compelled to choose sides, are forced to take affirmative action. The long road home begins with our minds. Our greatest power comes to us through our contact with the ancestral reservoir of knowledge known as the ancestral stream. Therein lie all of the answers that we seek. We must be critical thinkers who have learned to tap into our own ancestral stream. We will never find the answers we seek unless and until we begin to make peace with our ancestors and call upon them for guidance. The alternative is to adhere to the inevitable inertia that attends the herd instinct. The herd instinct is a need to identify with a group that causes many people to follow leaders or ideas without critical examination; the herd instinct in its worst manifestation can be downright genocidal. I am confident that this mind power primer will accomplish its intended goal. But, it will only do so if its readers are themselves willing to intellectually challenge what they believe. There are no sacred cows in the pursuit of Total Black Empowerment. We must also understand that Critical thinkers, above all, must understand power. We must understand power because God and Power are one. The power we must know is not black power or white power, but pure unadulterated power. Finally, we must understand what we believe. Our beliefs run the gamut from the merely fantastic to the downright ridiculous. A fantastic or ridiculous belief cannot exist if it is at odds with reality based core beliefs. This is not to say that we cannot think such things but rather that no such belief can long survive that is opposed to our core beliefs. Our core beliefs are fundamental to our understanding of the world. These social, political and religious beliefs are interconnected and as such are dependent on each other for validity. Our beliefs must be repeatedly weighed against the reality of the world in which we live. We fail to do so at our own peril. The unstated purpose of this mind power primer is to develop, among African Americans, a cadre of critical thinkers who, by use of these ancient techniques, will become the vanguard of the new age.The goal of Total Black Empowerment is possible only through the creation of powerful minds. Powerful minds are minds infused with powerful ideas. This mind power primer has been developed to assist in the attainment of that goal.
