About the Author

Iva Cipuri is from Albania. She graduated from the University of Tirana in 1996, majoring in English Language and Literature and was offered a teaching position at the same University.

In 1997, when Albania became an arena of near civil war, she fled to Greece. While in Greece, she worked for the American Embassy in Athens. She also taught English in Greek schools.

Iva came to the United States in 2000.

Her first book, Lightfoam, a collection of poems in English, was published in Albania in 1998.

Her first poem published in the United States, Water Is an Animal, appeared in Up the Beanstalk, a journal of children?s literature, in April 2005.

Iva speaks Albanian, English, French and Greek.
