When two crimes have been commited in 1984 against the U.S. a special department of the Pentagon is called on to take immediate action. One crime involves the kidnapping of a physist, who is in charge of the "Star Wars Project" and is on vacation in Turkey. The CIA locates the physist held hostage in Iran and orders one of their agents, who speaks farsi, to assist a SFO officer in rescuing the physist. The physist was being held at a remote outpost located near the Caspian Sea in the mountains north of Tehran and he was scheduled to be beheaded at a public display when President Reagan address the United Nations in four days. When the Iranians learned that Col. Gail Pierce was the SFO officer assigned to make the rescue attempt, several of the Iranian generals warned the radical general in charge that this woman was known by most of the militaries as being extremely dangerous and to be cautious. The radical general informed them that ten top soldiers under the command of the Ayatollah's nephew and that the Americans were weak to send a woman. At the same time, two hundred pounds of C-4 explosives was stolen from a shipping terminal at Ft. Benning, Ga. The security team in carge of the base operations did not have any clue as to how this crime was committed, so the base commander requested the assistance of the Special Forces Operation (SFO). This theft would create national panic if the public was aware of this danger, so Gen. Frank Newsom, the Director of SFO, took charge of the investigation after his first inspector was killed. While retracing his inspectors movements, Gen. Newsom is taken prisoner by mercenaries working for the theft organization It will take a civilian, Michael Hale, who solved the largest theft case of the Viet Nam War and Marine Major Greg Watson,who met Michael Hale in Viet Nam, to locate the general and descover how the crime was committed. Their most difficult problem will be to rescue the general and locate the C-4 before it is delivered to the terrorist. The mercenaries are cold blooded killers and the mastermind of the theft organization is a madman who enjoys revenge. These two cases include suspense, action and romance. Failure was not an option.

In the volatile world of Vietnam in the 1960's, fortunes are made in supplying military cargo-and stealing it. The U.S. military hires a young executive freight specialist, Michael Hale, to discover who is robbing the government of millions in cargo. Hale follows the trail into Southeast Asia to try and pinpoint the leaders of the organization bilking the government. Someone wants him dead, so Hale must stay one step ahead of those trying to kill him. A chance meeting with a beautiful nurse, Sandy Morgan, only complicates things. Not only does she jeopardize his mission, she also threatens his heart.
Hale does have one thing going for him-Frank Newsom, the most lethal officer in the U.S. Army. He becomes Hale's guardian angel and makes sure Hale survives long enough to uncover the criminals responsible. But as tension mounts, Hale finds himself doing the unthinkable just to stay alive. And even then, it might not be enough.

G. M. Lucas earned a BA from the University of Houston. During 1968 he was stationed at Norton Air Force Base. Mr. Lucas worked at the Houston Post newspaper for ten years and later as owner of a company specializing in large two-way radio systems. He and his wife live in Houston.
