About the Book

Death of a Bee is a collection of poetry written by a high school senior in his attempts to grasp truth. Written in a style reminiscent of Robert Frost's A Boy's Will, Broad writes in layers that, when peeled away and examined, reveal the depth of emotion and meaning in life. This is not a book meant to be read once.

With more supposition than condemnation, Broad presents his thoughts in three sections, the Lake, the River, and the Sea, relating largely to love, life, and society, respectively. From the themes of each section are drawn the development of a life through extensive metaphors and gradual change. Each of these sections concludes with the examination of the death of a bee in the context of the ideas behind the section.

The collection is not only of poetry, but a poem in and of itself. It creates a wonderful aura of interconnected thoughts, phasing back and forth between various metaphors that fit together into the larger picture of the whole. This is a book that does not attempt to change your life, but help in understanding its mysteries.
