The average person makes thousands of decisions every day. Most of them are easy. Decisions like what time to get up, what to have for breakfast, and when to go to work. These decisions mean you do something as a result. Your decisions lead to actions. You decide to get up at 7 a.m., so you get out of bed at that time. Sometimes the actions you take as a result of a decision are pretty easy to perform. Ethics are behavior based upon your view of what is right or wrong. Ethical decisions can be hard to make. This is because most often the actions that follow these decisions directly impact others as well as yourself. Often, these decisions are not easily reached. Your own views of the right, wrong, good, or bad things to do are shaped by your personal life experience. As a result, your ethical views can be influenced by others, but they come from inside you. Your own ethics will likely be similar to many others you meet; but are likely to be very different from some people you encounter. Brother Herman Zaccarelli C.S.C received his Master of Science (M.S.) in institutional Administration from St. Thomas University, Miami, Florida. His professional experience includes administrative appointments at King’s College, St. Mary’s College, The University of Minnesota (Crookston), and Purdue University. Brother Herman resides at the Holy Cross Residence, in Coco Beach, Florida and currently serves as Adjunct Professor at Barry University, Merritt Island, Florida Campus.
