About the Book
Never a Hero recounts the story of the author's life from his early childhood during the 1920s in Weinert, Texas, to the present day. In this book he shares memories and insights gained growing up in a poor section of the country during the 1920s and '30s, as well as his experiences in a CCC camp and in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
About the Author
Sidney Coggins was born the youngest of seven children ranging in age through 23. His birth was not likely the family's most cherished event of 1923!
The author grew up in the impoverished small west Texas town of Weinert. While a small town, Weinert still had all of the services a town of that size would need: the local barbershop, a couple of filling stations and several grocery stores. As a child, Young Coggins, like countless other children of his time, lived and explored his life through his vast imagination and many of the stories and jokes told in Never a Hero were gleaned from these treasured gathering places. Later, as a teenager, the author would join the CCC Camp.
Today the author is happily married, the father of three grown children and grandfather of six.
