Five-year-old Annie Smith's life is dramatically changed when her mother suddenly dies on the Kansas prairie in 1879.

Facing the struggles and challenges of growing up Annie is left to find comfort in her mother's locket, courage from her letters, love from the pages of a diary and the cherished memories from her aunt's stories.

Keeping her father's dream alive, that others would stop to visit and leave a flower at her mother's grave, soothed her thoughts through childhood. But what if no one ever stopped or left a flower?

As a young woman, Annie feels an urgent need to re-visit her mother's grave. She hopes to enlist the help of her brothers. She wonders if it is possible to find it, fifteen years later.

Will finding the grave be what she expects? Will it leave her free to move on with her life?

About the Author

Thelma Noland and her husband of 52 years live west of Beggs, Oklahoma, where they raise quarter horses. Her great grandfather brought his family to Oklahoma in 1882, and made the 1889 land run. Every generation of her family since 1882 has lived in Oklahoma at some time.
