G. Ray Pharr received his bachelor?s degree from Lenoir/Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina, his master?s degree from Stetson University, and his doctor?s degree from UNC. He has taught in both public and private schools from fourth grade through the graduate level in North Carolina, Florida, California, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona.
He served as a Bomb Disposal Expert in World War II and has had first-hand experience with all the places and events in his book. He and his wife, Joan, now live in Fountain Hills, Arizona, and continue to teach in a community college nearby.
