Denise found herself on a drastically downward slope of life. Her nineteen-year career, as a probation officer, posed new risks. Denise's seventeen-year marriage began to crumble. "Probation officer shot," said Mom, to the 911 operator. The ambulance rushed her to the hospital in critical condition. Why would anyone do this to her? As she tried to answer that question, her survival would be a tightrope walk on the edge of sanity.

Denise Smith's memoir, Back from Sanity's Edge, gives a brief look into the mental agony she suffered during her journey to recovery. About the Author

Denise Smith earned a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from the University of Michigan. She worked, as a probation officer, for the State of Michigan, intermittently, from 1974 to 1993. As a minister, playwright, and writer, Smith ministers to the downtrodden, depressed, and the hopeless. She lives in Detroit, Michigan.
