Contemporary theorists have called for the rejection of any metaphysical assumption of a unified One as the starting point for philosophy or theology; but this move had already been accomplished, within Christian theology itself, by the German philosopher F.W.J. Schelling (1775-1854) -- who posited God as the prius or first principle of individuation, emerging thus from His own basis as an eternal becoming-conscious.
