However, like the blurred picture, he is a famous unknown, an adventurous kid from Coney Island who managed to stumble into the world of music and make an original life for himself.

He has also recorded, worked, or jammed with Errol Garner, Count Basie, Tony Bennett, Charlie Parker, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, Tommy Flannigan, George Shearing, Buddy Rich, Marian McPartland, Teddy Wilson, Gil Evans, Lenny Tristano, and scores of others.
