About the Book

What do you do when you lose the love of your life, your soulmate? How do you survive the heartbreak? How do you go on? Sometimes it takes a miracle.

Julie Maxwell’s life is aglow with the promise of happily ever after. She has a wonderful husband, a cottage by the sea to call home, and at last a pottery studio of her own. She is living her dream until suddenly, she isn’t. The tragic death of her husband hurls Julie into an abyss of isolation, and her world feels like it is crumbling in on her.

But life can be as benevolent as it is cruel and hope can find you wherever you are. In the most unexpected way, an irascible little cricket named Ulysses, who is facing a devastating loss of his own, suddenly appears in Julie’s life.

Who is this guy? Why has he come into her life? Is he really talking to her? Or, is she imagining things? Before long, it doesn’t matter whether the cricket is make-believe or not. Julie comes to love his big attitude and determination, and the way he softens the immense burden of heartache and fear she is carrying.

Soon, this unlikely pair embark on a whimsical, heartwarming and inspiring journey through the storms of grief, the difficulties of letting go, and the uncertainty of starting over. Ulysses finds that “flight” may still be an option for him, and Julie realizes that deep within her there exists a whole new level of artistry. Together they discover the magical things that can happen when you believe in yourself.

A One-Legged Cricket is one of those books you won't want to put down. It fills your heart with hope and leaves you smiling and wishing there were more.
