About the Author

Born in South Africa, a descendant of Dutch, German, French and English settlers, Van Wyk spent many years expanding the telephone network into the remotest corners of the Bushvelt. He was instrumental in bringing technology, with its positive and negative aspects, to isolated communities whose culture and lifestyle had changed little from pre-colonial times.
