About the Book

In the ancient Marais section of Paris, a petty gangster is brutally murdered. His wife, the beautiful model Veronique, has disappeared along with a mysterious bronze statue of Bathsheba. Goldie, an inquisitive, retired New York City teacher, discovers the body. Determined to find her missing friend, she becomes entangled in a series of murders.

Her search leads her into the worlds of art and fashion, and into sinister corners of the City of Lights. Russian gangsters and other unsavory characters pursue her in the belief that she knows where the statue is hidden.

She is hounded by the bumbling inspector Potiron and helped by Boris, the husband of her old friend, the painter Maxie. But is he truly her ally, or is he her enemy? Why are so many people obsessed with the statue?

Ruth Walter is an American living in Paris. A number of her short stories have been published in literary magazines in the USA and Paris. One of her short stories is in the curriculum of a Lycee in Brittany. Her paintings are in collections in the USA and abroad.
