To Keep The Other One Company and Other Poems bridges the gap between "slam poetry" and "page poetry," and ranges from longer pieces which invite quiet contemplation, to performance pieces which will only be fully realized with an audience.

Despite experiments with new forms and classics topics: Love, History, Politics, and the Natural World, Mr. Dehnert never forgets the basic imperative to communicate, and the central message is made more accessible by the rhythm and rhyme, instead of less so. He bares a deep concern for an increasingly alienated society, and hopes that these poems and art in general may help to counter the increasing commercialization of the public discourse.

All of this gives a sense of urgency to the poetry which both includes and transcends a political agenda. Indeed, these poems describe the space in between people. They reflect on human relations, and at their best, they carry the tension of the time of fear and deep desiring which precedes and permeates a kiss.

About the Author

After a decent upbringing by decent parents, Mr. Dehnert was raised by coyotes in the Arizona desert. He has spent a lifetime studying the fortuitous imperfectability of humanity and recording the art and history of those failings. He currently lives on Staten Island where he conspires to undo consumption.
