About the Book

Robert O'Reilly seeks out his old friend, Chip Blanc, and asking for help. He feels he will not make it back to Kansas and wants Chip to help his daughter, Rita Marie, when she comes west. O'Reilly needs Chip to help Rita Marie find a stash of savings hidden in a remote location. It can only be found by two map pieces and a pair of broken spurs. O'Reilly has one part of the map and a broken spur. Rita Marie has the other two. Since there is no immediate danger, the two friends return to their jobs. Mending broken ribs from a breaking horse throw, he is forced to stay the winter in Silver City with friends, Ed Long and Stony. Later, Chip is forced to help get some men out of a farm prison. Afterwards, he is jumped and left along the trail. His dog shot, Chip is out for revenge, as well as trying to make things right again. He stops the men from killing a sheriff.

Rita Marie O'Reilly and Chip Blanc finally meet in Duck Creek, Nevada, and start looking for her father. She only has her portion of the map and one broken spur.
