About the Book

“In his highly informative and entertaining book, Video Game Junkie: Straight Talk from a Recovering Addict, Kevin Roberts helps us dive into the depths of the minds of these 21st century addicts. Using himself as a prime example, he shows us how easily it is for an innocent pastime to take control of your life, become your alternate reality and make the real world your fantasy. After taking us on a journey through the depths of video game addiction, Kevin uses a humorous and informative combination of personal anecdotes, case vignettes and advice to show us how the video game addict can recover. Along the way, we learn about the positive side of gaming, particularly its military applications, and we get practical advice for parents to approach their adolescent game junkies. With insight, compassion, and hope, Kevin Roberts informs and inspires his readers to cope with video game addiction. This book is a “must read” for parents, anyone who works with youth in education, health, or mental health, and most of all, for the addicts themselves.”

—Arthur Robin, Ph.D. Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Neurosciences, Wayne State University School of Medicine

“Roberts advocates teaching young people how to responsibly game. He clearly shows that, with self-discipline and proper training, the skills and aptitudes that make an individual adept at video games can also lead to lucrative and challenging careers.”

—John Everingham, Ph.D.
