About the Book

Don McEvoy has written this book for his grandchildren and the next generation or two they may produce, to let them know how their granddad chose to invest his life, the issues that held him in thrall, the causes to which he was committed, the values he cherished, and the vision of a world of harmonious relationships he believed was humanity's ultimate destiny.

If others, perchance, decide to read these pages they will be introduced to a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma who always seemed to see things through a different lens, empathized with those scorned by the majority, delighted in speaking truth to power, and took pride in multiple quixotic undertakings.

You will learn why he chose to become a Christian minister and why he came to believe the church provided too limited a pulpit for the message he wished to proclaim. You will learn of his family's friendship with the family of Martin and Coretta King, of being on the John Birch Society's list of "Ten Most Dangerous Men," being sued by the Ku Klux Klan, facing down the leader of the American Neo-Nazi party, interceding in the Soviet Union in behalf of imprisoned Jewish refuseniks.

You will learn why he urges his grandchildren to question authority, never believe the official explanation and always continue their pursuit of the impossible dream.

About the Author

Don McEvoy writes of growing up in Jim Crow Oklahoma during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl; of finding inspiration to confront the injustices of that society in his church; of becoming a leader in the struggle against racism and anti-Semitism; of always questioning authority; of speaking truth to power and tilting at windmills wherever he saw them.
