About the Book
Dream Death is a first collection of poetry from Satyananda J. Gabriel, a professor of economics and finance at Mount Holyoke College, in South Hadley, Massachusetts. These poems are shaped by his diverse cultural experiences, family history (spanning multiple continents), and his work on social scientific theory. Gabriel has argued elsewhere that human relationships are overdetermined. This means that every event in a society and in a person's life is significant and contributes to shaping the society and the individuals that comprise it. This idea is integral to this set of poems. More than anything else, the poet wishes to stimulate questions, to push the reader to rethink her view of other human beings, and to reinforce a sense of the infinite possibilities for future human evolution.
