About the Author
Mfundishi Obuabasa Serikali holds memberships in several national and international Tai Chi organizations including the International Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Association and the American Yangjia Michuan Tajiquan Association. He is currently certified as a Tai Chi instructor by the National Wellness Institute through the Metro Louisville (KY) Health Department. The martial sciences have been a central part of the life of Mfundishi Obuabasa Serikali for over 40 years. In addition to Tai Chi Chuan, Mfundishi Serikali has taught meditation, yoga, and karate. As a lifelong resident of Louisville, Kentucky, he has devoted his life to extend the discipline of the arts to all people. After 27 years of service, he retired from the City of Louisville in 1999 where he also rendered service as a gang coordinator for the City of Louisville. Having received certification in Stress Management, he has worked with individuals and groups from all lifestyles to bring about increased awareness of the effects of stress through his Tai Chi classes. Coupled with his desire to motivate others to improve their health through diet and exercise, Mfundishi Serikali lectures throughout Louisville on the topics of wellness, stress management, and spirituality as well. Along with regular classes and workshops on Tai Chi, he has firmly committed himself to helping others, especially those who previously led a sedentary lifestyle, realize their maximum potential and live their lives in a more healthy way. To that end, his Tai Chi program has been included in phase I of the Mayor?s Healthy Hometown Movement. This is a community-wide effort to create a new culture in Louisville where physical activity and optimal nutrition are the norm.
