About the Book

Black Tea tells the story of a family. Seemingly perfect on the exterior, this Indian family bears burdens that transcend all forms of logic and reasoning. It tells of the conflict between a mother and a daughter, who are torn apart by their acceptance, or lack of it, in regards to their skin colors. In order to see her daughter happy, the mother goes to unspeakable extremes, even though they reveal her own hypocrisy. On the other side of this family is the ideal son… or so they think. What will happen when the love of the son’s life is exactly what the mother has tried for so long to protect her family from? But, is she really somebody to be protected against, or is she simply a normal person rejected by a prejudiced society? And what will come of the mother and father, who, in the moment of truth, will have to make the toughest decision of their lives: should they affirm to society’s beliefs or attempt to fight them even though it goes against everything they have been taught?
