About the Book

Al Ataque is an excellent book that describes the preparation a bomb group goes through before being deployed overseas as well as the problems of shipping some five thousand men and supplies along with some eighty B-24 aircraft from a stateside base to a foreign country. The book then details the establishment of Torretta Field that was used by the 461st for the duration of the war in Europe. The 461st Bomb Group flew two hundred and twenty-three combat missions between April 1944 and April 1945. Each of these is described in the book. Personal experiences of veterans who were actually part of the 461st are included.

About the Author

Hughes Glantzberg is the son of Colonel Frederic E. Glantzberg, Commanding Officer of the 461st Bombardment Group (H) from October 1943 until September 1944. Hughes first heard about the 461st Bomb Group Association in 1999 and attended a reunion held in Shreveport, LA. He heard a number of stories about his father and the time his father spent training and commanding the 461st. In 2001 Hughes assumed responsibility for the 461st website (www.461st.org) and began accumulating information about the organization. Since then Hughes has created one of the most comprehensive websites about a WWII organization. In writing this book, he has attempted to combine all this information in an informative book about the 461st.
